How to Find & Beat All Master Trainers in Pokemon Let’s Go
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are definitely more accessible than your typical mainline entry, taking inspiration from Pokemon GO to draw in a whole host of new fans. There’s still plenty of content for longtime fans to dig into, however, and that includes a brand new addition known as Master Trainers. Here’s how to find and beat all Master Trainers in Pokemon Let’s Go.
Master Trainers are only unlocked after you beat the Elite Four in Pokemon Let’s Go, and there are 153 of them in the game. Basically, they’re the best trainers in the world for each individual Pokemon. All 153 will use a high-level single Pokemon, and you’ll need to beat them with your own exact same Pokemon. You also won’t be able to use any items during these battles.
Master Trainers look pretty much exactly like the Coach Trainers you find throughout the game, except they’re wearing red jackets. When you see a master trainer you’ll see an icon above their head with the specific Pokemon they’re a master of.
We’ll give you the location of each and every Master Trainer in Pokemon Let’s Go, then provide a few tips that might help you take them all down. The trainers will be listed by Pokemon, in the order they appear in the Pokedex.
All Master Trainers in Pokemon Let’s Go
- Bulbasaur (Rena) – Route 4, found between Mt. Moon and Cerulean City
- Ivysaur (Katrina) – Route 14 east of Fuscia City, found by the water.
- Venosaur (Sal) – Route 23, just by the exit of Victory Road
- Charmander (Tim) – In Celadon City, on the top floor of Celadon Condominiums
- Charmeleon (Christopher) – Route 10, exit of Rock Tunnel
- Charizard (Edmund) – Route 23 by the Indigo Plateau
- Squirtle (Suzy) – Route 12, found at the docks south of Lavender Town
- Wartortle (Prita) – Route 20, near the stone blockade at Cinnabar Island
- Blastoise (Tessa) – Route 20, in the water southeast of the Seafoam Islands.

Tips For Beating Master Trainers in Pokemon Let’s Go
Master Trainers are the biggest challenge you’ll face in Pokemon Let’s Go, and each one will pit you around a high-level Pokemon. Part of what makes these fights so difficult is that you’re restricted to one Pokemon and it has to be that specific one, meaning there’s a lot of training to do.
The best way to boost up your Pokemon for these battles if by feeding them their specific candy, i.e. Pikachu Candy or Rattata Candy. These candies are gotten by getting long catch chains of the specific Pokemon, or you can get them by transferring a Pokemon to the professor, getting their candy in return. Once again this means lots of catching and trading, to get lots of candy.
Bumping up a Pokemon’s stats with a ton of candy means that even a level 30 or so Pokemon could take on a level 70 Master Trainer’s.
Grinding to level up your Pokemon can take a lot of time, but there is an easier way to do it. Head to the Cerulean Cave and start chaining Chancy catches together. You can even use two Joy-Cons to throw two Pokeballs at once, like if there were two players, and increase your chances. Chaining together a bunch of Chancey catches can lead to thousands upon thousands of experience points.
In terms of the actual battles themselves, from what we’ve seen online, there are a few TM moves that are super useful. These are,
- Dig (Story TM in Cerulean City)
- Protect (Give the girl on the rooftop of the Celadon Department Store a Lemonade)
- Toxic (Defeat Koga)
- Fly (Route 16 house, use Cut)
- Brick Break (Rock Tunnel entrance Coach Trainer)
The basic idea is that you’ll want to beat out your opponent with a war of attrition using Toxic. Bump up your Pokemon’s speed poison the opponent with toxic and then use Dig or Fly to avoid a hit. If your Pokemon has speed priority you’ll be able to easily avoid an attack on a turn, while your opponent takes more damage from Toxic.
It’s also a good idea to have priority moves on any Pokemon that can learn them, like Pikachu’s Zippy Zap move.
There’s no way around it, beating all of the Master Trainers in Pokemon Let’s Go is going to take a long time. Make sure you know that full well before taking on the challenge. Stick with these strategies, however, and train up your Pokemon, and eventually, you should be able to come out on top.
