Getting to Iron Island in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

To get to Iron Island, you’ll need to speak to the sailor NPC in the bottom left-hand corner of Canalave City. He’s stood next to a boat on a wooden dock, and when you speak to him, he’ll take you over to Iron Island.

Of course, getting to Canalave City will require you to have first obtained the Surf HM so you can get across bodies of water. This is obtained by speaking to Cynthia’s grandmother in Celestic Town and is automatically unlocked as you progress through the story.

You’ll then need to beat Crasher Wake in Pastoria City’s Gym before you can use the Surf HM outside of Pokemon battles.

Once you’re able to use your Surf HM, head to Route 218 and then use Surf to head west (right) to Canalave City. Now just go and speak to that sailor and you’ll be on your way.

Why Go to Iron Island?

It’s actually possible to beat the Elite Four without ever going to Iron Island, as it’s not somewhere you need to go for the story. However, if you do choose to go over there, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts.

For helping Riley clear out Team Galactic off Iron Island, you’ll be given a Riolu egg. Once hatched, you can then level it up and evolve it into a Lucario.

That’s everything you need to know on getting to Iron island in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. For more tips, tricks and guides, head over to our wiki or see more of our coverage on the game below.
