New Pokemon “Poke-Lid” Manholes Starring Chansey Will Be Installed in Fukushima Prefecture

If you’re thinking “what the heck is a Poke-Lid?” then you should know that these Pokemon-themed manhole covers have been around in Japan since late 2018, with the installation of an Eevee Poke Lid in Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture.

These Poke Lids have different Pokemon designs on them and have been created to revitalize Japanese cities and towns while also promoting more tourism.

And for the first time ever, a brand-new set of Poke Lids are being installed in nine of Fukushima Prefecture’s municipalities. Each manhole cover will feature an original design that’s themed around Chansey, which in Japan, means Lucky.

You can see the gorgeous designs down below! Personally, I would love to own these as pins or t-shirts.

And for those that are avid Pokemon GO players, you’ll be happy to know that each Poke Lid location will eventually become a Pokemon Stop, allowing players to read more info about the design and earn some in-game rewards.

Chansey is also a Pokemon that’s known to have tons of happiness within it, and that is why it was chosen for Fukushima’s Poke Lid designs. Now, I totally understand why these Pokemon find themselves employed at Pokemon Centers!

You can also see the locations of the Poke Lids down below. If you ever visit the area, you can track them down and see the artwork for yourself in person:
