After only three seasons, Netflix and Marvel TV have decided to cease production of their popular series, Daredevil. The streaming service issued a statement to Deadline, announcing the cancellation of the gritty superhero show.

“We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”

Daredevil’s third season was well-received, so the notion of wanting to end on a high note is understandable. Fans were eager to see the continuation of the vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen, so it is sad to see it end so soon.

After the cancellation of The Defenders, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, it’s unclear what the fates of the remaining two Marvel Netflix shows will be. As of now, The Punisher and Jessica Jones are expected to return for new seasons.

Some speculate that Daredevil may return on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, but this has not been confirmed. It may be odd to see a show as mature as this on their platform, so it doesn’t seem likely.

As of now, Disney’s upcoming streaming platform does have two Marvel shows in the works with Loki and Scarlett Witch, respectively.

We have a lot of questions at this point and will have to wait and see what comes of the rest of the Marvel shows on Netflix. The streaming platform seems to be quickly ramping up for future projects like the upcoming live action Cowboy Bebop show, so not all is lost, but it’s still sad so see such a good show end so soon.
