Cowboy Bebop Is Getting a Live Action Series on Netflix

Netflix has been making a habit out of bringing licensed IPs to the platform, with the likes of Castlevania, the upcoming Witcher series, and Narnia, to name a few. Today, Netflix has announced that a new live action series based on the beloved anime, Cowboy Bebop, will be headed to the platform.

This is an exciting time for anime fans, as we just got word that Netflix acquired the rights to Evangelion, another popular anime series.

The live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop will be 10 episodes long and will be co-produced by Netflix and Tomorrow Studios, the team behind the live action One Piece adaptation.

As for Cowboy Bebop, the announcement is generating lots of hype due to the loud and loyal fan base. We love it here, too, and it even made our 10 Best Adult Anime list.

Originally debuting in 1998, Cowboy Bebop had an interesting blend of noir and western themes, delving deep into existentialism and loneliness. Fans have praised its diversity, successfully blending genres, including action, thriller, and comedy.

Above all else, Cowboy Bebop is widely remembered for its incredible jazz soundtrack, which will no doubt be stuck in your head after a listen. Let’s hope the Netflix show keeps that catchy intro song.

It will be interesting to see how the stylistic direction will be implemented, as it does have its wacky over-the-top moments. Given the track record of previous live action anime, it’s understandable why this might be a concern.

Hopefully, the series will be in good hands, as the original anime director, Shinichiro Watanabe will be on hand as a consultant for the project. Additionally, Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok) will serve as writer for the first episode.

There is no set release date for the series yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. We’ve got our fingers crossed for this one.
