Here’s all you need to know on how to play splitscreen in Black Ops 4 and how many players it supports.

CoD Black Ops 4 is the latest entry in Activision’s popular annual franchise, Call of Duty. This time around, Treyarch is back at the helm, and they’re doing things a little differently. Instead of putting in a full single-player story mode like they always do, they’re going full multiplayer. Black Ops 4 features three different multiplayer modes: Blackout, which is the new battle royale mode, traditional multiplayer, as well as Zombies, which has become a series staple at this point. If you’re wondering whether you can get into any splitscreen multiplayer action in Black Ops 4, here’s what you need to know.

Splitscreen multiplayer is indeed supported in Black Ops 4, but there are some limitations. For starters, from what we’ve seen so far, the Blackout battle royale mode has splitscreen support for up to two players. You can still get into Duos and Quads games with friends online if you wish.

As for Zombies and the core multiplayer modes, you’ll be glad to know that splitscreen multiplayer is supported here as well. Whenever you load up the game, take a look at the top right corner of the screen and you’ll see a message prompt that lets you know that you can add a new controller to the system. Assuming you’re on PS4, just turn on the controller, then press the X button to join the session. If you’re on Xbox One, you’ll want to press the A button to join instead.

Now, you’ll be able to play the core multiplayer modes and Zombies together with a friend on the couch.

How Many Players Splitscreen Supports

Black Ops 4 has splitscreen support for two players while playing online. We have also now been able to verify that you can play up to four players in splitscreen when playing offline. To add the third and fourth players into your session, simply follow the same instructions we mentioned above on your third and fourth controllers.

However, it’s worth noting that once you add the third player to your lobby in Black Ops 4, the game will notify you that you will no longer be able to play online. Only two players can play in splitscreen online in Black Ops 4.

And that’s all you need to know about how to play splitscreen multiplayer in Black Ops 4, and how many players can engage in it. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Black Ops 4 wiki guide for more information on the game. If you’re looking for tips to do well in the multiplayer modes and Blackout, we’ve got you covered on that front as well.
