Choose Your Landing Spots Wisely

As with all battle royale games, Blackout in CoD Black Ops 4 also requires you to be careful about where you land when the match starts. Interestingly enough, regardless of which direction the helicopter heads in, your wingsuit usually provides you with enough speed and velocity to get to almost any point in the map when you’re dropping.

As a general rule of thumb, loot can only be found inside buildings, which is why you’ll usually see players flocking towards denser areas. If you’re just starting out in Blackout, it might be better to avoid these areas. Look for more secluded spots with one or two buildings so that you can loot in peace.

Alternatively, there’s no better way to improve your skills in Blackout than by putting yourself through a trial by fire. If you do insist on landing in a crowded zone, sprint for the nearest building and pick up the first weapon you see. This gives you an immediate advantage over your opponents, who might still be getting their bearings.

Another good tip to bear in mind is that it’s also entirely possible to just punch another player to death at the start of the match. If a player gets to a building before you do, you can either run in the opposite direction, or follow them and punch them before they can pick up a weapon to react.

Make Use of the Specialist Gadgets

Blackout tries to shake up the battle royale formula by introducing Specialist gadgets that you can use in the traditional multiplayer modes. Surprisingly enough, these are actually really useful, and you should definitely grab them whenever you spot one.

The recon car is one of the most handy gadgets you can get, as it allows you to scope out your surroundings and see if there are any players nearby. Just make sure you’re in a safe spot before deploying. If you find yourself in a situation where two other players are in the midst of hunting each other down, you can also use the recon car to reveal one player’s location to the other, forcing them into an open confrontation.

The sensor drone is another useful late-game gadget. When deployed, it’ll mark a player’s location on your mini-map whenever they step into the drone’s area of surveillance. You can use this anytime you want, but we found that it was most useful near the end of a match, when the safe zone is much smaller.

Get Your Backpack and Armor

Armor can be very powerful in Blackout, and if you go into a fight without it equipped, it’s pretty likely that you’re gonna lose. Armor comes in three levels, and they provide you with varying levels of protection. Try not to get caught in a firefight without some equipped, or if you have to, try to get the jump on your opponent so they don’t have time to react.

However, if your opponent is equipped with armor and you’re not, you might be better off running away than trying to take that fight. You’re definitely gonna want to find some especially as you head into the late-game phase.

Like with most battle royale games out right now, backpacks are also important as they allow you to carry more stuff. While you can pick up ammo freely without worrying about it taking up precious space, backpacks will increase your item stacks to 10, which is always handy.

Look Out for Light Beams

During a Blackout match, you might spot a strange blue light beam off in the distance. If you head there, you’ll find a loot crate with good gear and equipment for you to loot. However, getting there won’t be easy as it’s usually guarded by zombies, and there’ll probably be tons of other players heading there as well.

If you’re close to the light beam, it might be worth it for you to make a run for it and grab whatever you can. But if you’re far away, and you have a long range weapon, it might still be worth your time to scope out the area and silently take down any unsuspecting enemies who are just looking to for an easy prize.

Speaking of zombies, some parts of the map like the Lighthouse, will always have high zombie spawn rates. Engaging other players here is dangerous, and if you’re still getting familiarized with Blackout, it’s probably wise to avoid zombies, at least at first.

Heal Up and Never Expose Yourself First

Most importantly, always make sure that your health is as high as it can possibly be. There are three types of healing items: First Aids, Med Kits, and Trauma Kits. First Aids are pretty common, and will heal you for 25 HP. The healing rate is also pretty fast, so you should try to keep a stack of these on you at all times. They’re also very handy during fights, as you can quickly duck behind cover to heal up, before turning the corner to surprise your opponent.

Med Kits and Trauma Kits are more potent as healing items, but they also take longer to use, and they’re better used when you’re out of combat. Trauma Kits are extremely rare, and can give you 50 additional HP. Sadly, Trauma Kits can’t be stacked. Still, if you find these, try to hold on to them until you reach the late-game phase.

Lastly, whenever you’re near the end of the match, always stay in cover, and never expose yourself to your enemy first. Wait, and try to bait them out before engaging. If your enemy sees you first, you’ll have a much lower chance of surviving.
