Princess Zelda, the iconic eponymous protagonist, remains integral to the story of Tears of the Kingdom despite not actually featuring all that prominently. She undergoes some pretty serious transformations in TOTK and, to that end, we’re answering whether Zelda becomes a dragon in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as explaining how she does so and whether she becomes human again.

Is Zelda a Dragon in Tears of the Kingdom?

Despite being integral in every Zelda game, the Princess Zelda is seen a lot less frequently than normal in Tears of the Kingdom. Pair her absence with Demon King Ganondorf up to his sinister tricks and some have even questioned whether she’s evil in the 2023 title.

There’s also the small matter of her becoming a Dragon in the game’s story. We’ll answer that question at its most basic to begin with: yes, Zelda does become a Dragon in Tears of the Kingdom. Naturally, it’s more complex than a simple physical transformation, and some players are concerned she’s stuck as one.

The Dragon’s Tears‘ portion of TOTK reveals Zelda’s memories as players unlock them. Memory number four, called An Unfamiliar World, shows that immediately after TOTK’s opening, Zelda traveled back in time to the founding of Hyrule.

She struggles to return to her own time period though, so opts to confer with Mineru over how she can get back to her period. They decide she should consume her Secret Stone to do so. This transforms her into an immortal dragon, allowing her to survive through to her original time period.

Does Zelda Become Human Again in TOTK?

Becoming an immortal dragon certainly seems like a permanent decision. Luckily, there is a way back for Zelda and she does not stay as a Dragon in Tears of the Kingdom. To explain how she manages to turn back into her normal form, we’ll be discussing the game’s ending. Only read on if you’re there or are happy to know how it plays out.

During the final battle with Ganondorf, Link watches on as the Demon King emulates Zelda’s transformation and turns himself into the Demon Dragon. A clash of dragons ensues, with Ganondorf and Zelda fighting.

Together, Zelda and Link are able to defeat Dragondorf (yes, I just came up with that) by destroying the Secret Stone with the infamous Master Sword. This causes a monumental explosion which sends our protagonists into a supernatural realm of some kind. Here, Rauru and Sonia give Link’s Zonai arm the power to transform Zelda back into her normal Hylian form, which he does. Hence, she becomes human(ish) again and is set to star in any future Zelda game.

That’s everything to know about Zelda becoming a Dragon in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as her transformation back to her original form! For everything else TOTK, including where to find the game’s actual Dragons, stick with us on Twinfinite.
