With Microsoft continuing their quest to add far more games than anyone could possibly play to the list of backward compatible games on Xbox One, Major Nelson announced on Twitter today that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is being added. No doubt with the release of the next Call Of Duty being only a few months away this should help to keep some fans occupied until October.

Modern Warfare 3’s story picks up right where MW2 left off, having you hunt a Russian terrorist as he tries to cause havoc by executing a series of attacks all over Europe. Outside of single player, there is, of course, multiplayer which includes a survival mode that you can play in co-op. It features the obvious online mode, with a wide array of different modes to fight your way through. Plus some of the game modes can be played in split-screen, which while increasingly rare these days is something that the last generation nailed.
The game is also currently on sale in this week’s Deals With Gold. It’s probably intentional to be fair, but if you don’t own the game and you want to dive in, then now seems like the best time to grab the title. The normal price is $29.99 but if you’re an Xbox Live Gold subscriber then you can get it for $14.99.
A few fans have reacted to this news by asking why Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 isn’t backwards compatible yet, but given that there could be a remaster out in the future, it makes sense that it wouldn’t be added to the ever growing list of older games.
