Ubisoft is partnering with Major League Hacking to give away free copies of Watch Dogs 2 to teams that win at a hacking competition they’ve got organized. Specifically, contestants will have to “design a project to demonstrate just how easy data privacy can be compromised on real-life smart devices.” (Via Game Rant)
There will also be a second competition inspired by Watch Dogs 2, which will be patterned around Capture the Flag. If you win this one, you get both a copy of Watch Dogs 2 and a trip to Montreal so that you can meet the game’s devs. Maybe try not to hack their computers while you’re there, though.
This marketing strategy is rather apt, considering the game itself is about a hacktivist group that bends the digital world as it sees fit. Much of the hacking in the game happens via the smart devices mentioned above, so it looks like Ubisoft is trying to get players to create a real-life Aiden Pearce or Marcus Holloway.

Watch Dogs 2 will release on Nov. 15 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
