Sony unveiled their Limited Edition Star Wars PS4 last week, and fan response has been less then enthusiastic. In fact, quite a few players have expressed their disappointment and voiced expectations for a more powerful design.
There’s even a new meme to go with all the discontent, comparing the custom PlayStation 4 with last gen’s Star Wars Special Edition Xbox 360.
The custom 500GB PS4 features an image of Darth Vader and a DUALSHOCK 4 controller inspired by Darth Vader’s chest panel. The Star Wars logo repeats across the top of the console and on the controller touchpad.
And here’s what the internet had to say about all that:
CakeAK: honestly, all I see is a standard PS4 with a Darth Vader sticker slapped on. I mean, if there are no custom sounds, LEDs, inscriptions, unique hardware designs, special textures, etc. then how is this a “fully customized” console? It’s more like a skin or decal if anything… I don’t know, maybe it’s just me… I just think there’s too much unrealized potential here for such an iconic character and concept design.
Others have suggested unique features such as Darth Vader breathing startup sound effects and even interacting controller pairs: “[when] placed in close vicinity (use NFC to detect), let the larger controller play ‘Luke, I am your father.’ and the smaller one should buzz in response: ‘Nooooo!’”
Sony’s custom PS4 and controller come in a few bundle variations. The first features Star Wars: Battlefront Deluxe Edition and four digital Star Wars titles coming to PS4 – Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars Bounty Hunter.
The second bundle focuses on Disney Infinity, offering the Disney Infinity 3.0: Star WarsEdition PlayStation Exclusive Hardware Bundle Kit and also the four classic Star Wars games.
One last bundle allows players to pick up the custom PS4 and controller with just Star Wars:Battlefront and the four digital games.
Will you be picking up one of these sets come their Nov. 17 release? Let us know!
