At this point, Troy Baker is the Mountain Dew of video games. It’d probably be easier to list the games that haven’t had his sultry voice in the past five years. He had a great year in 2014 with big titles like Tales from the Borderlands, Infamous Second Son, Shadow of Mordor, and others, and this year he’s already been in Batman: Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X.
Last year, Baker played the charismatic, yet psychotic baddie Pagan Min in Ubisoft’s sandbox game Far Cry 4. This past weekend at Indy PopCon, Baker was asked by a fan what it’s like to create a villainous persona, which prompted the actor to recall his audition for Pagan Min, which went a different turn when an assistant came in to check on everyone’s coffee:
“All of a sudden she walks in, I said ‘I’m sorry, who is this? Who is this walking into this room right now? N-n-n-no no no no, don’t leave. Sit down, have a seat. Please. No no no no, just make yourself comfortable. Would you like some coffee that you brought in, it looks very delicious. Now, here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to murder her right in front of you.”
You read that right, folks. Esteemed voice actor Troy Baker threatened to murder a Ubisoft assistant for the role, and they gave him the job. That, my friends, is what we call…
You can watch the entire video up above, or skip to 22:32 for the setup and story. Shout out to the assistant for being an unwilling pawn in the world of acting!
