The PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita both got new updates today, but they’re not very typical.
The PS3’s firmware update 4.78 and the Vita’s Firmware update 3.57 will not be fixing the problems that a firmware update normally would. Instead of stability enhancements or anything of that nature, these two firmware updates will be removing Facebook features. Yes, you read that correctly, they’re taking away Facebook.
These are the patch notes:
PS3 Update
- Support for Facebook features on the system has been discontinued.
PS Vita/PS TV Update
- Support for Facebook features on the systems has been discontinued.
Sony goes on further to say that, for the Vita, “You might not be able to use some applications or content without first updating the system software.” On the PS3 they say, “Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.”
According to some posts on NeoGaf, multiple people who have already updated their systems say that even though the Facebook functionality is no longer on their systems, the Facebook icon remains present but unusable.
