The last installment to the series launched back in 2009 with Left 4 Dead 2 and since then there has never really been any talk of another game in the series even being in development. However, today a new report has been leaked and has provided us with a few details about the rumored upcoming game.

According to UK website Express, Valve is currently working on Left 4 Dead 3 which is set to launch sometime in 2017. The site also goes on to detail that we will be put in the shoes of a female character named Katherine. The other characters in the group of zombie killers have been also been named. The three male characters joining Katherine will be a gangster called Irvin, comic book nerd Keenan and famous Kenpo fighter Garret Jr. We can’t wait to find out more about all of these characters.

Express also mentions that there will be six separate campaigns playable in Left 4 Dead 3. Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that old-favorite No Mercy will be making a return and will be joined by Cliff-Hanger, Early Destination, Crashland, Impasse and Inquisitor Land.

Whether the rumors are true or not remains to be seen, but let us take this as a positive sign that we may end up with a new Left 4 Dead game sometime next year. However, with Express not linking to any source, it’s difficult to understand exactly where these new details have come from.

Do you think the rumors are true? Would you pick up Left 4 Dead 3? Let us know in the comments below.
