As announced on the game’s official forum, friendly fire was disabled “in an attempt to reduce team killing in Fortnite Battle Royale.” This change is now live on the game’s servers and doesn’t require a client update.

The representative from Epic Games stated that they are also aware of the strategic elements that friendly fire brings to Fortnite. Because of this, they will try to look at other alternatives in reducing team killing if this dumbs down the game’s strategic aspects.

“We understand that when players abuse friendly fire it can be an incredibly frustrating experience,” said Epic Games’ Eric Williamson. “The impact of this change will be closely monitored, and in the case that those tactics are too negatively affected we may evaluate other methods of reducing team killing.”
