Final Fantasy XV Director Confirms the Game’s 2016 Release Date

Ready for the best road trip ever?

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy XV has had a long, occasionally confusing journey since 2006. It began development that year as a Final Fantasy XIII spinoff. The game jumped from PlayStation 3 to PS4 and Xbox One, and has been in development for nearly a decade due to the drastic changes it went through. Now, the director of XV has confirmed that the RPG/road trip simulator will finally be released in 2016.

Hajime Tabata posted a blog on Square Enix’s website along with some art of the game’s main characters.

Happy New Year!

We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016! In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.

The post goes on to thank fans for their support of the game and feedback the team received from the Final Fantasy XV demo.

The specific release date is still not known, but it seems that the game will finally be released three years after its official reveal at E3 2013.

Square Enix are also bringing back the Active Time Report this January. This event will be streamed on Square Enix’s YouTube page and will reveal more details about Final Fantasy XV’s battle system and the villainous Nilfheim Empire.

Do you think Square Enix will release the game in summer to compete with Persona 5, or stick to the fall/winter slot where most AAA games release? Let us know in the comments.
