Backwards compatibility is all the rage with the Xbox One these days. Dark Souls 3 will give Xbox One players the first game when they buy it, and now the upcoming Doom is offering the same kind of deal. The (now removed) page on the Xbox website lists what you’ll get when you pre-order the game, and among them is backwards compatible versions of the Xbox Live Arcade versions of the first two games from way back in 1993 and 1994, respectively.
It’s not a bad idea to do that, if only to show longtime fans just how far the series has come, and to introduce any new or younger fans to the start of the series, but with less blood in your face. Right now, Bethesda and id haven’t commented on this (or if this applies to both digital and physical versions), but once they do, we’ll let you know.
Doom (the new one) butchers its way onto the Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on May 13.
