Another PUBG rival finally emerges, or at least its beta finally arrives soon. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout Mode will begin its open beta on Sept 10. for players that have pre-ordered the game. The beta will also be available on PlayStation 4 first with other platforms to follow.
A brief trailer gives a jarring introduction to this new battle royale mode, declaring that players in this private beta will be able to compete solo or in duos and quads in order to be the last soldiers standing. With only an epic 19-second video as lead-up to this event, the Blackout Beta and this new game mode promises to be an incredibly ambitious project that only Tryarch and Activision could pull off.
As we wrote about earlier, Blackout “is being described as the culmination of 10 years worth of work and growth in the Black Ops universe.” Though this genre may be seen in virtually every popular streaming game, it is definitely exciting to see such a massive overhaul to a game series that has followed a traditional formula for years. Blackout will encompass several aspects from the myriad of game modes that have been added to the franchise over its overly long stay. This mode is sure to be a staple of the series that will not soon be forgotten or replaced in later iterations.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 comes out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on Oct. 12 with its Blackout Beta starting Sept. 10.
