(Week One: Aug. 1-5)

In case July wasn’t a big enough deal for you to make it clear that the summer drought is a thing of the past, August 2017 is waving its flag that has a long list of game releases on it, all due out in the coming weeks. Pretty much all genres are present and accounted for and no matter what console you own (or PC) you’ll find something that’s perfect for you.

The first week kicks things off a bit light, but if you’ve been holding onto a PSVR, there are a couple of games here for you. PS4 owners can also enjoy Patapon Remastered. The big game of the week comes from Fullbright, the folks that brought Gone Home into the world. Tacoma has players explore an abandoned space station as they seek out the answers behind what happened.

Check out the first week’s schedule:

  • Aug. 1 – CastleStorm VR (PSVR)
  • Aug. 1 – Dino Frontier (PSVR)
  • Aug. 1 – Patapon Remastered (PS4)
  • Aug. 1 – The Long Dark (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Aug. 2 – Tacoma (Xbox One, PC)

(Week Two: Aug. 6-12)

Things pick up a bit in the second week, with a few fun titles across the PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. One of the big titles of the week is Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice from Ninja Theory (Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DmC: Devil May Cry). Players will explore a dark, twisted world made real by Senua’s (the game’s protagonist) psychosis. With inspirations from Norse and Celtic mythology, there are plenty of beasts and other scary entities to face off against. And, knowing how seriously Ninja Theory takes combat, it’s a game to look out for.

There’s plenty more releasing in week two, check out what’s on offer:

  • Aug. 8 – ARK: Survival Evolved (PS4, Xbox One,  (PC)
  • Aug. 8 – Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (PS4, PC)
  • Aug. 8 – Lawbreakers (PS4, PC)
  • Aug. 8 – Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Aug. 10 -Flip Wars (Switch)
  • Aug. 11 – Sudden Strike 4 (PC, releases on PS4 on Aug. 15)

(Week Three: Aug. 13-19)

While there are a lot of games coming out in week three, a lot of attention will be on Sonic Mania. SEGA’s mascot hasn’t had the greatest run over the past few years, but Sonic Mania is bringing back everything that made the classics great. Beautiful worlds, a solid soundtrack, and high-speed platforming fun. Many fans are hoping that this is the game that breaks the dreaded curse, and we just have to wait to Aug. 15 to see if that’s the case.

Another classic game coming out this week is Star Craft Remastered. Players will be able to relive the beginning once again, only with better visuals and some updated features.

There’s plenty more where those two came from. Here’s week three’s schedule:

  • Aug. 14 – Star Craft Remastered (PC)
  • Aug. 15 – Agents of Mayhem (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  • Aug. 15 – Cities: Skylines (PS4)
  • Aug. 15 – Matterfall (PS4)
  • Aug. 15 – Nidhogg 2 (PS4, PC)
  • Aug. 14 – Observer (Xbox One, PC)
  • Aug. 15 – Sonic Mania (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC)
  • Aug. 15 – Troll and I (Switch)
  • Aug. 15 – Undertale (PS4)

(Week Four: Aug. 20-26)

Naughty Dog isn’t done with Uncharted just yet. While Nathan Drake may have hung up the adventuring clothes, Chloe and Nadine still have some treasure to seek out in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Madden NFL 18 also drops this week, giving players an updated football sim where they can live out their franchise dreams by taking their team to the big game every year.

There are a couple of indie titles to keep on your radar during week four as well. The Escapists 2 takes the prison-escaping antics of the first game and adds even more options and challenges. Thimbleweed Park was a must play on the Xbox One and PC, and now PS4 owners will get to see what all the fuss was about.

August 2017 Video Game Releases

(Home Stretch: Aug. 27-31)

The final few days of August are jam-packed with releases. First off is what looks like another big hit from Nintendo, this time partnered with Ubisoft, in the form of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. It takes the humor of the Rabbids, the world of Mario, and the tight, strategic gameplay you’d expect from the likes of XCOM and rolls them all into one, great package. If you’re looking for that same gameplay but want something a bit more mature, XCOM 2’s War of the Chosen expansion drops on the same day.

Life Is Strange fans have something to look forward to, too, with a prequel releasing before the month comes to a close. If you need more emotions in your life and Life Is Strange doesn’t quite cut it, check out Last Day of June.

There’re a lot of options during this period, so check out the full schedule:

  • Aug. 29 – Absolver (PS4, PC)
  • Aug. 29 – Culdcept Revolt (3DS)
  • Aug. 29 – Everybody’s Golf (PS4)
  • Aug. 29 – Hello Neighbor (Xbox One, PC)
  • Aug. 29 – Last day of June (PS4, PC)
  • Aug. 29 – Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch)
  • Aug. 29 – Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition (PS4, Xbox One)
  • Aug. 29 – Redout (PS4, Xbox One)
  • Aug. 29 – Warriors All-Stars (PS4)
  • Aug. 29 – Windjammers (PS4)
  • Aug. 29 – XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Expansion (PC)
  • Aug. 29 – Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)
  • Aug. 31 – Life Is Strange: Before the Storm (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
