Cassie Cage: Bubble Head

I’m pretty sure everyone by now is already aware of Cassie Cage’s Selfie Fatality in Mortal Kombat X. You know, the one where she takes a picture of her posing with her recently deceased opponent’s head and posts it to social media. While that one is pretty cool in its own special way, she employs another one that is a bit gruesome in an odd way.

You see, Cassie Cage likes to chew bubblegum, and Mortal Kombat X, like previous entries in the series, makes sure to use the things fighters like when designing their fatalities. In this particular one, Cassie Cage shoots her opponent in the head, then, as they drop to their knees, she walks up and places her gum onto the new bullet wound. What follows is a bubblegum bubble filled with something that is definitely not air.

After watching this, players will probably never look at chewable candy the same again.

Takeda: Head Cage

The reorganizing of anatomy is nothing new to Mortal Kombat X. In fact, most of the humor (however dark it may be) that can be found in fatalities is usually found in the different Picasso-like works of art that Kombatants make out of one another. Takeda takes a special approach when it comes to his work of art: the Head Cage.

Utilizing his spear attack, that he learned as part of his Shirai Ryu training at the hands of Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion), Takeda proceeds to remove the front section of his opponents rib-cage. He then walks up and shoves it into the mouth of the victim lucky enough to become a work of art. It’s a really vicious way to go, and one that isn’t easily removed from memory.

Goro: Peek-A-Boo

Goro is one of the few fighters in Mortal Kombat X who is hilariously powerful. How so, you ask? Well most of his combos are triggered with a simple command and they easily shave off a quarter of your health. He has an unblockable attack that causes a knockdown, and he uses fire as ranged attacks as well. But, it becomes even more apparent when you take a gander at his Mortal Kombat X fatalities.

To be completely honest, it was a bit difficult to decide which one deserved a place on this list. First considerations went to the one where he jumps on some pour souls back and tears off all their limbs, but that one seems too easy. His other fatality, now that’s the ticket. It is both insanely violent, and oddly humorous.  Peek-A-Boo has Goro punch his opponents head into their torso, which he then reveals by ripping off the skin and muscle covering the belly area.

It is an insanely violent fatality that perfectly captures just how vicious this Shokan prince truly is.

Jax: T-Wrecks

Jax is back and ready to do some serious damage to anyone who wants to test those bionic arms of his. Just like in classic entries, Mortal Kombat X‘s Jax is all about breaking opponents apart with devastating punches, bone shattering grabs, and just all around brute force. All of these are manifested in one of his fatalities: T-Wrecks.

It all begins with Jax shoving his opponents arms into his/her body so that they have tiny arms like a T-Rex (makes sense now right?). Afterwards he lights a cigar, but where is he going to put the ashes? If you know anything about Mortal Kombat X, then you probably have a good idea how this is going to play out. Jax proceeds to snap the top part of his adversary’s skull back in order to use their lower mandible as an ashtray.

It’s an unnecessary display of brutality that is welcome by fans with open arms.

Ermac: Inner Workings

Ermac is a disturbing character in Mortal Kombat X without ever having to attack. His look, his voice, just everything about him screams stay away. But, it’s the oddities that pique curiosity and force the unknowing to do battle with beings like Ermac. Unfortunately, things don’t always go well for the challenger, and that’s when things take a turn for the gruesome.

Ermac’s Inner Workings fatality is about as gruesome as it gets. Using his magic, Ermac lifts his opponent in order to twist them as if they were nothing more than a mere play thing. You can hear every bone snapping and breaking, and if it ended right there it would still be understandable how this fatality made the list, but it doesn’t end there. Ermac then rips out his enemy’s intestines in one piece as he leaves the vulnerable body just hovering there.

Just another lesson in why you shouldn’t mess with Ermac.

Mileena: Tasty Treat

Mileena is vicious. If you were unsure of that fact, Mortal Kombat X does its very best to make it as clear as day. She will stop at nothing until she is recognized as the true ruler of Outworld once again. Even if that means devouring the competition…seriously.

Tasty Treat is one of those fatalities in Mortal Kombat X that really makes you feel bad for the poor soul on the receiving end. Mileena pounces on her opponent before immediately tearing into their mid-section. What earns this fatality a spot on this list is the fact that her opponent is alive throughout the entire thing. Watching them freak out as their intestines and spine are torn apart is frightening. Even more gruesome is when you see their upper half try desperately to get away only to collapse in death shortly after.

The plus side is that Mileena doesn’t let anything go to waste, since she begins to eat the remains of the fallen.

Sonya Blade: Head Hunter

Sonya Blade is a classic fighter who is still shining in Mortal Kombat X after having been a part of the series for over 20 years. Of course, that alone wouldn’t earn her a place on this list. It would take some intense violence with a touch of personal flair. Head Hunter is exactly that.

Mortal Kombat X places Sonya Blade right back into her military roots as one of the heads of the Special Forces so it’s only right that here fatalities reflect that. Head Hunter is particular special since it doesn’t just do the overdone removing of the opponents head. This fatality has Sonya summon a drone that opens fire on the opponents head after she removes it with some wire. Once it finishes removing all traces of identity from the skull, Sonya then wears it as a sort of trophy on her belt.

Who knew Sonya Blade could be so sentimental.

Sub-Zero: Chest Cold

Sub-Zero is one of the most iconic Kombatants in Mortal Kombat history. His feud with Scorpion, his blue costume, and don’t forget his ability to freeze fighters solid. He also happens to have one of the most iconic fatalities in the series’ history. Unfortunately he no longer does his rip-off-head-with-spinal-cord-in-tact schtick but he still manages to have one of the more violent fatalities in the game.

Chest Cold starts with Sub-Zero freezing his opponents chest before shattering all of the bones and and organs surrounding the spine. He then reaches into the newly formed cavity with both arms and snaps that spinal cord in half, but it doesn’t stop there, oh no. After paralyzing the poor sap he’s fighting against, he lifts them over his head before tearing the body in half.

Sub-Zero has developed a mean streak, I think I liked him better when he just ripped heads off.

Quan Chi: Mind Game

Quan Chi’s Mind Game fatality has to be one of the most uncomfortable things to watch in Mortal Kombat X. It is the most twisted and sadistic finishing move in the entire game. Yet, as hard as it may be to watch, it’s difficult to not look at how impressively Quan Chi dispatches his opponent.

Mind Game takes full advantage of Quan Chi’s Sorcery by having him force his opponents to walk face first into his sword with their mouths wide open. Quan Chi then lifts his foe’s body in order to cleanly split it in half from face to groin. The ease in which this all takes place sends a bit of a chill down the spine.

It’s easy to have forgotten just how powerful Quan Chi is. His Mortal Kombat X fatality is a grim reminder.

Corrupted Shinnok

The final fatality on this list is one that players can’t even perform. When playing through a Klassic tower in Mortal Kombat X, the 10th, and final, kombatant is always Shinnok. Once the player manages to defeat him a cutscene rather than the words “Finish Him” will show and you will be greeted by one last challenger. That final challenge is Corrupted Shinnok, which is basically just a super powered Shinnok who is pretty pissed that you’ve beaten him.

If you happen to lose, there is a small chance that this new adversary will actually finish you off with his fatality, and it is a gruesome one indeed. It all begins with two demons flying you into a spiked pillar. Once impaled, Corrupted Shinnok walks over and pulls you down, leaving your head mounted and tearing the rest of your body in half, which he throws to the ground like the garbage that it is. The last thing you get to see before retrying the fight is those damned demons from before feasting on your remains.

What are some of your favorite fatalities in Mortal Kombat X? Did they make the list? If not feel free to share your faves, and why you think they deserve a spot here.
