In a recent blog post on the Star Wars: Battlefront site, community manager Mathew Everett answered some of the top questions about the upcoming title. He sadly revealed that while Star Wars: Battlefront will have split-screen, it will only be available to the Xbox One and PS4 versions. The split-screen mode will support up to two players in the mission mode. These missions will include Battles, Hero Battles, and Trials, and console users will be able to play them in both offline and online co-op. Everett also revealed that mission mode won’t grant players experience for the multiplayer mode, but instead players will earn credit which they will be able to use to unlock rewards.
He also revealed that in the game’s Walker Assault mode, vehicles will be tied to a power-up system and, by using them, players will spawn inside the vehicle. However, players will have limited time to use them to “allow more equal distribution of the vehicle power-ups amongst all players.”
Unfortunately, Everett also revealed that players will not be able to fly a Y-Wing as they are support vehicles which are limited to a number of modes. This is a real shame since, in the Walker Assault mode, Y-Wing bombers are the only thing that can damage the Walkers and it would have been cool to be able to fly them.
Here is the full Q&A:
Q. How do vehicles spawn in Walker Assault?
A: In Walker Assault, vehicles are tied to the power up system. When you find a vehicle power up on the map, you will need to activate it, which immediately spawns you inside the vehicle.
Vehicle power ups specifically must be used within a certain amount of time. This is a design decision to allow more equal distribution of the vehicle power ups amongst all players.
Q. Can I fly the Y-wing?
A: Y-wings are non-player controlled vehicles. They are a support vehicle that you can call into battle within certain game modes.
Q. Is Split-screen available on PC?
A: Split-screen will be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only.
Q. Does experience within Missions apply to Multiplayer progression?
A: Playing Missions does not grant you multiplayer career experience, but it does provide you with credit rewards you can spend on buying unlocks.
