Today SNK hosted a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, to advise the media about the upcoming IPO and KOSDAQ listing for the Japanese developer. During the conference, more information was shared about the upcoming Samurai Shodown (or Samurai Spirits, if you prefer the Japanese name) game that was announced during Sony’s PlayStation Lineup Tour.
Apparently, it won’t be a PlayStation exclusive, and it’s in development for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and even PC.
The planned launch window for the game is in the second quarter of 2019. The report did not mention whether this is intended as a fiscal quarter or calendar quarter, so it could either be between March and June or between June and September.
Secondly, we hear something about the plans for the King of Fighters franchise. Apparently, The King of Fighters XV is planned for 2020, which would work rather well a year after the release of Samurai Showdown. No platforms were mentioned for this, but I would be surprised if SNK didn’t take a multiplatform approach as well.
One thing is for sure: Samurai Shodown appears to be a technological step-up for SNK, and it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll give the popular series new life.
If you’re interested in SNK’s games, their latest title is SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The game will soon receive Jeanne from the World Heroes franchise as a DLC character.
