Today Capcom announced that they’ve seen their biggest ever digital release. Resident Evil HD Remaster (mouthful much?) sold more on its first day on Sony’s PlayStation Network than any other Capcom game to date.
This means that the title, which is based upon the 2002 GameCube release which was itself based upon the original 1996 title Resident Evil, was the biggest ever digital launch for the long-standing staple publisher across both Europe and North America.
The title’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, said that “It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have enjoyed this new release. The team here at Capcom Japan have worked hard to bring the game to the latest generation of consoles and we are thrilled at this news on its performance.”
Resident Evil HD Remaster has received heaps of praise from numerous outlets, including Twinfinite, includes a bunch of features that brings it kicking and screaming into the eighth console generation. Outside of the obviously improved visuals, others aspects including sounds and music were tweaked to make them as good as they could possibly be. The control scheme and aspect ratio were also tweaked, along with the inclusion of a Very Easy Mode for those who find the experience a little too difficult.
This news comes as pre-orders begin to flood in for the next upcoming release into the world of Resident Evil, Resident Evil Revelations 2.
Resident Evil HD Remaster is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for around $19.99/ €19.99/£15.99. There’s also word of an enterprising modder who is adding the god-awful voice acting back into Resident Evil HD Remaster.
