Last year Valve and the eSports Entertainment Association banned a number of professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players after they discovered that they were match fixing.
The players in question were Duc “cud” Pham, Derek “dboorn” Boorn, Casey Foster, Sam “Dazed” Marine, Braxton “swag” Pierce, Keven “AZK” Larivière and Joshua “Steel” Nissan. According to a post on the Counter-Strike blog back in 2015, they were discovered to be match fixing after Valve found that “a substantial number of high valued items won from that match by Duc “cud” Pham were transferred ( via Derek “dboorn” Boorn ) to iBUYPOWER players and NetCodeGuides founder, Casey Foster.”
The ban was originally slated as “indefinite” until Valve announced in a post titled “A Follow Up to Integrity and Fair Play” that they have decided to make the ban permanent. In the post, Valve noted that “To clarify, the bans for these players are permanent, and players proven to have taken part in match-fixing will be permanently banned.”
According to Valve while the bans “can be disruptive and painful to some members of the community,” they said that:
We will continue to take whatever action we think is necessary to protect the entertainment value created by professional Counter-Strike, including, on occasion, terminating our relationship with individuals who have demonstrated a willingness to exploit their fans’ faith in the integrity of the sport.
