Like its predecessors, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 has a rather impressive roster spanning the entire manga/anime history. Of course, not every character is there from the very beginning. You start out with four characters, but the best of the best must be obtained by completing various missions and challenges throughout the game (yes, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 believes in rewarding you for gameplay).
Some of the most powerful characters are obtained through the Dream Log, which presents a 3D map that links many small islands together. In order to unlock any of the below characters, complete the challenges that link to that character’s island in order to make your way to them. Be prepared, because the fights are challenging, and for good reason. These are some of the most powerful characters in One Piece’s lore, so be ready for stiff competition.
Portgas D. Ace (Complete the Third Stage in Dream Log) – Monkey D. Luffy’s brother, and eater of the Flame-Flame Fruit. A very powerful technical fighter with the ability to create, manipulate, and become living fire; he is not one to be trifled with.
Vice Warden Magellan (Clear “Prison Warden” in Dream Log) – Eater of the Venom-Venom Fruit, Vice Warden Magellan was one of the main antagonists from the Impel Down. He has immense brute strength, and a rather intimidating stature. He can also create and manipulate various toxins, such as creating a Hydra made out of a unique venom for which it is said cannot be cured.
Gecko Moria – Eater of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit, Gecko Moria is the captain of Thriller Bark and its zombie pirates. He can manipulate darkness and even steal the strength of his adversaries. Although he is one to succumb to cowardice, he is actually very powerful and once stood as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Dracule Mihawk (Clear “Hawk Eye Mihawk”) – One of the reigning Seven Warlords of the Sea, Dracule Mihawk is the “Greatest Swordsman in the World.” He may not have eaten a Devil Fruit, but he can stand toe-to-toe with the most powerful characters in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, and is responsible for helping Roronoa Zoro reach his new level of power after the events at Impel Down.
Edward “Whitebeard” Newgate (Clear “Emperor Whitebeard” in Dream Log) – One of the 4 Emperors who ruled over the new world, Whitebeard was considered the “Strongest Man Alive” because although his Devil Fruit (the Tremor-Tremor Fruit) was a Paramecia type, it had the ability to destroy the entire world. He may not be the fastest fighter in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, but he easily one of the strongest.
Marshall “Blackbeard” D. Teach (Clear “Blackbeard Teach”) – A former member of the Seven Warlords and current Emperor, Blackbeard is easily the most despised pirate in all of One Piece. He knows no loyalty other than that to himself, is a coward of the highest degree, and plays dirty. But, he is also the only person who wields two Devil Fruits, the Dark-Dark and Tremor-Tremor Fruits (both considered among the most powerful). This makes him easily the strongest pirate out there. Using him gives the ability to make other Devil Fruit users’ abilities inert, as well as have serious damage dealing force.
Fujitora (Complete “Admiral Fujitora”) – An admiral in the Marines, Fujitora is one of the strongest forces in the military. He has power over gravity from what is presumed to be an unknown Devil Fruit, and he is a highly skilled swordsman making him a serious threat at both long and close range.
Kizaru (Complete “Admiral Kizaru”) – After eating the Glint-Glint Fruit, Kizaru gained the ability to become and use light offensively and defensively. He is ridiculously fast (due to his ability to move at the speed of light), and immensely powerful using both burning and physical attacks to wear down his foes.
Akainu (Complete “Admiral Akainu” in Dream Log) – Fleet Admiral Akainu is the most vicious fighter in all of One Piece. He has one goal: to rid the world of all pirates by any means necessary. He is the eater of the Magma-Magma Fruit which allows him to become, produce, and manipulate magma. He is also the only person who seems to be able to fight against Haki while maintaining full use of his abilities. He is powerful, and can use many area of effect attacks making closing the distance on him very difficult.
Bartholomew Kuma (Complete “Tyrant Kuma” in Dream Log) – Once known at the “Tyrant,” Bartholomew Kuma is now a cyborg known as a Pacifista completely under control of the World Government. He possesses the power of the Paw-Paw Fruit which allows him to do insane things like slap people so hard they fly for days, and to condense air into a bomb. He is much faster than he looks and is extremely dangerous at close range.
Eneru (Complete “God Eneru”) – Another Logia Devil Fruit eater (Rumble-Rumble Fruit), Eneru has complete control over lightning and believes himself to be a god. Like Kizaru, he is insanely fast, and will use that to keep a distance as he demolishes anything from afar. Don’t let that fool you, though, he is equally as dangerous up close, so approach with extreme caution.
Kuzan “Aokiji” (Complete “The Former Admiral”) – Former Admiral, eater of the Ice-Ice Fruit, and all around cool guy, Kuzan is one of the easiest characters in the game to use, and one of the strongest in the One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. He can cover a very wide area, and that’s just with his basic combos. When going against him, be ready to jump and dodge… a lot.
Don Quixote Doflamingo (Complete “Warlord Doflamingo”) – Doflamingo is the main antagonist of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and is extremely deadly. He ate the String-String Fruit which, as you may have guessed by the name, allows him to make and manipulate string. It also allows him to use people as puppets, fly around by attaching to clouds, and to create clone marionettes of himself. You must keep on your toes when fighting this guy, because he can come at you from all sides.
Monkey D. Garp (Complete “Garps Fist”) – If the name looks familiar, it is because Vice Admiral Garp is the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy, the main character of One Piece. He is not a Devil Fruit eater, but he is still one of the strongest fighters in the manga/anime, having accomplished feats that not even admirals were able to. He is a brutal close range fighter using a serious a powerful punches. Do not underestimate him. After all, he is the man who fought Gol D. Roger countless times and trained both Luffy and “Fire Fist” Ace.
Red-Haired Shanks (Complete “The Great Pirates”) – Shanks is one of the Four Emperors of the New World, a talented swordsman, a great leader, and one of the most respected (and feared) pirates in the world. So much so that not even Akainu, the Fleet Admiral of the Navy, wouldn’t dare to cross him. He is the man who gave Monkey D. Luffy his straw hat and started him on his journey. Even with only one arm (which is another thing he gave to Luffy), his power is unmatched. He stands toe-to-toe with Devil Fruit eaters, and will easily defeat any opponent.
