Just a few days after HollazHalan set the Fallout: New Vegas any% record at 20:47.6, YouTuber Rydou has done the same in Fallout 3, completing with a world record time of 14:54.
Like the New Vegas run, Rydou’s run was an any percent run, which means that he was allowed to take advantage of glitches, exploits and more to clear the main questline as fast as possible.
Rydou managed to reach this time by using quicksaving and quickloading to clip himself through walls. According to Rydou, the reason why this works is because after you quickload, “the collision detection doesn’t work during something like 10 frames, allowing me to clip through objects and walls, in some extent.” Rydou also used the speedcripple glitch, which was also used in the New Vegas speedrun. This glitch requires you to quickload the game just before crippling your legs. If done correctly, you’ll trick the game into giving you 160% movement speed without suffering from the movement penalty.
Throughout the video, which you can see above, Rydou uses annotations to give viewers some insight to explain what he was doing and why. He even notes that his time is perfectly beatable because while his Raven Rock time “was godly,” he lost valuable time glitch climbing his way out of Vault 87 as he kept clipping through the rock.
If you’re curious, the speedrun time for completing every quest in Fallout 3 is 2h 01m 20, and that was without loads. You can check out all of the speedrunning times for Fallout 3 here.
