.hack//GU Last Recode is receiving a physical release on PlayStation 4 in North America. Previously, Bandai Namco Entertainment America had announced that digital versions would be available for PS4 and PC. However, for those die-hard fans out there — or people that just hate waiting for downloads — the on-disc copy is now an option.
This new collection will contain all three .hack//G.U. Action RPGs. The games .hack//G.U. Vol. 1: Rebirth, Vol. 2: Reminisce, and Vol. 3: Redemption all originally appeared on PlayStation 2, but with their remaster for The Last Recode, they’ll each get a bump in fidelity.
Each volume will play at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, and be presented in 16:9 widescreen. There will also be gameplay balance tweaks, and the in-game cutscenes, background and texture resolutions, shadows, anti-aliasing, and more have all been improved for the new release. There are also some additions to the game that Bandai Namco hasn’t announced yet, so we may be seeing new story elements or even new characters.
.hack//G.U. Last Recode is releasing for the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the release of Vol 1: Rebirth, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like we’ll see a remaster of the original .hack series. As of right now, the collection doesn’t have a firm release date, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon and GameStop.
