A spokesperson speaking to Re/code confirmed that Google creating its own virtual reality arm, which sadly, did not turn out to be some sort of digital limb. The division will be led by Clay Bavor, formerly VP of product management. No further details on Google’s VR plans could be shared, so it’s not clear exactly what the “not an actual arm” arm will be developing.

The company already has a pinky toe dipped in VR, with YouTube supporting virtual reality videos viewable using a smartphone and a Google cardboard viewer.

Facebook’s Oculus Rift was the first VR platform to open pre-orders this year, hitting the digital shelves at an ill-received $599.
