There was a lot of buzz for Assassin’s Creed back when the first game was released in 2007, so much so that Sony Pictures reached out to Ubisoft Motion Pictures with the idea of creating an Assassin’s Creed film. Movie adaptations of games have a history of being pretty poor and everyone felt pretty indifferent when it was announced that a movie was in the works. Besides, actually getting a film made is a seriously difficult job, just ask Peter Jackson and his Halo adaption.
It was then announced in 2012 that actor Michael Fassbender (X-men: First Class, 12 Years a slave) would be producing and starring in the film. Given some of the excellent films Fassbender has been involved with, we couldn’t help but feel a little bit optimistic about the movie. Since 2012, work has really come a long way and today, Yahoo got an exclusive look at Michael Fassbender in his assassin’s attire.
Filming will begin on Monday and Fassbender will be playing the role of a character named Callum Lynch. The movie will also star Marion Cottilard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception). The historic setting of the film will be set in 15th century Spain and will be a new story with new characters which will fit into the Assassin’s Creed universe. The film is set to be released on December 21, 2016.
