There had to be a remake; Dark Souls and its fans deserved it. Maybe some people dreamt about a new-gen version of the older Souls games, however, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is still excellent news. Besides having improved graphics and performance, and all of Dark Souls II DLCs, there’s a lot to this new release that should catch most Dark Souls fans.
First of all, players will find the Scholar of the First Sin, a new NPC that is supposed to reveal a “new path through the Dark Souls II universe”. Despite lacking further information, previous announcements have already stated that this new character will help tell the game’s story in a deeper and more detailed way.
This new depth to the story will be additionally developed by extended item descriptions. As always, Dark Souls games have incredibly rich lore, which means new information will not only help make Drangleic feel more legendary, but also offer more details about the story buried within Dark Souls II.
In other more gameplay-related changes, the bonfire warp selection screen will now highlight the three areas where players are more likely to find other players. Since Dark Souls II introduced soul level restrictions, this will definitely help players who want to enjoy the game’s multiplayer modes. This new feature will be complemented by the Agape Ring, a completely new item that absorbs souls gathered during online play. This ring is designed to allow players to control their soul level and thus, their overall matchmaking experience.
All of the features listed above are just a part of the new content included in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. Nonetheless, these new features will also be available for current Dark Souls II owners with the release of a free update in February 5.
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will be hitting PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One, and also the last-gen consoles this April 7th.
