At this point, it’d be easier for From Software to just call themselves Souls Studios. Since the release of Demon’s Souls in 2009, they’ve been putting out games all built around the concept of hard difficulty and dying a lot. Dark Souls, its sequel from last year, and Bloodborne from this past March, and next year will mark the release of Dark Souls 3. But that game won’t just have elements from the previous two games, it’ll also have traces of Bloodborne.
Speaking with Edge Magazine, From has revealed some tweaks and new mechanics. The game will have a “Ready Stance”, which will give players an alternate combat style when activated. Think the weapon modify mechanic from Bloodborne. The stance attacks will vary with each weapon; for example, the longsword will have a “forward moving swipe” that breaks guards. Greatswords are given an upward charging slash that sends enemies into the air. Dark Souls 3 also speeds up backsteps for players and the option for faster and more graceful attacks.
More changes are sure to come for Dark Souls 3 when it releases next year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Got any changes you’d like to see? Let us know in the comments below.
