Blizzard Considering New Warcraft RTS Following Starcraft 2 Conclusion

Warcraft 4?

A new Warcraft title isn’t completely off the development table, according to Tim Morten, producer of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.

Morten shared that following the close of the StarCraft II saga, the team will consider a variety of options for their next venture. While StarCraft III remains a possibility, a Warcraft RTS would also be up for discussion.

“This isn’t the end of StarCraft, but it’s the end of this story for these characters,” Morten told IGN at Gamescom. “We don’t have any specific plans, but I’ll say that the universe has so much potential for more stories, clearly other stories could be told.

“It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible.”

It hasn’t been…that long…

A new Warcraft RTS would be a long awaited continuation for series fans, who haven’t seen new content for the title since 2003. World of Warcraft has been Blizzard’s main focus since its release in 2004, with Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm emerging in more recent years.

Gamescom also saw the reveal of the next World of Warcraft expansion, Legion. The expansion does not yet have a release date, but will feature a new demon hunter class, a level cap raise, and the long-awaited return of Illidan Stormrage.
