Beta programs for popular upcoming first person shooters are always a Mecca of sorts for gamers. Bandwidth levels are tested to breaking point as we hurriedly try to get the latest beta onto our systems as quickly as possible. Twitch channels light up with live play and Twitter feeds are full to bursting with shiny screen shots and informative, or comedic, GIFs. The Battlefield Hardline beta, which ran this weekend, was no different. What was a little unexpected however was the amount of people who took the leap into playing with Visceral’s stab at the long-running Battlefield series.
Hearing about a couple of million people playing a beta isn’t exactly surprising. Destiny’s beta was able to attract a staggering 4,638,937 players when it went live, enough to set a record. That is until now. Battlefield Hardline‘s beta was able to drag over 6 million players into its warm and gun-filled embrace since the program went live on February 3rd, according to a statement from EA.
In the statement Steve Papoutsis, Vice President and General Manager of Visceral games stated “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the community one more time. We love the two way dialogue we’ve established. And now that you’ve driven millions of miles in Hotwire, you’ve stolen billions of dollars in Heist, and you’ve continued to show mad love for Conquest, we can’t wait until you get a chance to play the whole package.”
That’s 6 million players who took the time to test out Battlefield Hardline, even without the seven different multiplayer modes and the full singleplayer campaign that’ll be present when the title releases.
Battlefield Hardline will be available worldwide March 17th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
