August 4 – Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight (3DS)
The Etrian Odyssey series has been slowly picking up steam over the last couple of years thanks to the popularity of recent releases such as Etrian Odyssey 4. As a result, ATLUS has created enhanced remakes of the older games in the series for the 3DS including Etrian Odyssey Untold 2: The Fafnir Knight. Expect series staple features such as map making using the 3DS stylus and dungeon crawling.
August 4- Galak-Z (PS4)
Spaceship shooter Galak-Z also drops this week and brings roguelike schmup action to the PS4. Structured like a TV show, you’ll have complete five episodes for each of Galak-Z’s five seasons. Galak-Z will also be released on PC eventually as well.
August 4 – Rare Replay (XB1)
Not so much a new game, but instead a collection all of the wonderful games Rare has created over the last three decades. Rare Replay includes N64 classics such as Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark and Conker’s Bad Fur Day, along with early hits such as Jetpac and Battletoads. If you have passing interest in Rare or want to relive some of your old favorite games, Rare Replay seems to be an incredible value.
August 7 – Submerged (PS4, XB1, PC)
Submerged, a third-person action game from developer Uppercut Games, breaks ground for the first time tomorrow on the PS4, and then on the XB1 come Aug.7. Boasting its combat free approach to gameplay, players instead must navigate a mysterious flooded city in search of supplies to save your family.
August 11 – Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (PS4)
Set after an apocalypse where presumably everyone has left due to the Rapture, players will explore the remnants of a small town while learning about the people who once lived there. Your choices will have a direct impact on gameplay when The Chinese Room releases Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture early next week.
August 11 – Gauntlet: Slayer Edition (PS4)
Did it bug anyone else when Gauntlet, a series that made its name on arcades and home consoles, was released exclusively on PCs back in 2014? Luckily, an updated version of the 2014 reboot of Gauntlet will finally be making its way to the PlayStation 4 on Aug. 11. Gauntlet: Slayer Edition (unrelated to this Slayer) will feature both online and local co-op and new monsters and modes.
August 11 – Goat Simulator (PS4)
The world’s premiere goat simulation technology comes to the PS4 for first time, this time with more GOATS… I actually have no idea if there are more goats or not, it just sounds like something people would say. If you like blowing things up as a goat but prefer the warm embrace of a PS4 to PC, then you’ll get your wish on Aug. 11 when Goat Simulator is released on PS4.
August 11 – Toy Soldiers: War Chest (PS4, XB1, PC)
Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the latest in the Toy Soldiers series of tower defense games. War Chest will feature armies led by classic toy franchises such as G.I. Joe and He-Man. This time around it isn’t exclusive to Xbox, and will also release on the PlayStation 4 and PCs.
August 18 – Armikrog (PC)
Armikrog is a Kickstarted game adventure game from the creator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenNapel. Releasing first on PC and eventually PS4 and Wii U as well, Armikrog uses claymation to tell the story of Tommynaut, a space explorer that crash lands on a planet and must escape from Armikrog fortress.
August 18 – Resident Evil Revelations 2 (PS Vita)
When Resident Evil Revelations 2 releases on Aug, 18, PS Vita fans can too now return to their survival horror roots. Check out our review of Episode 1 for the PS4 to see if this one is for you.
August 18: Volume (PS4, PS Vita, PC)
Volume is a self-described modern day take on Robin Hood which borrows stealth elements from the Metal Gear Solid series. A device aptly known as “Volume” will help your main character voiced by YouTube celeb Charlie McDonnell complete various heists.
August 18: Zombi (PS4, XB1, PC)
Zombi, the port of the popular Wii U launch game, ZombiU, makes its debut on the other two big three consoles and PC later this month. Although there won’t be a second screen (a big part of the gameplay of ZombiU), minimal HUD and tense unpaused backpack rummaging sessions will remain.
August 21 – Risen 3: Enhanced Edition (PS4)
The enhanced console version of Risen 3 boasts visuals on par with “ultra” settings from the game’s original PC release. Also included is all of Risen 3‘s previously released DLC.
August 25 – Dishonored: Definitive Edition (PS4, XB1)
In a month chock full of HD re-releases, Dishonored kicks off the final week of August with its own definitive edition. Expect much improved visuals thanks to the improved hardware. Also, all of Dishonored‘s DLC, including The Knife of Dunwall and Dunwall City Trials, are now included for free.
August 25 – Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (XB1)
Yet another HD re-release debuts this week this time the original Gears of War is getting a facelift via its “Ultimate Edition”. Like Dishonored, you’ll get a much prettier version of the game and all of its DLC. However, Microsoft announced that you’ll also get the entire Gears of War series via Xbox One backwards compatibility as well. Sweet!
August 25 – Madden NFL 16 (PS4, PS3, XB1, 360)
Madden NFL 16, the latest entry in the long running annual football series, drops in a couple weeks ahead of the start of the NFL regular season. New this year is “Draft Champions” mode which aims to simulate the experience of hugely popular fantasy football leagues.
August 25 – Until Dawn (PS4)
Until Dawn is a survival horror by Supermassive Games that promises a multitude of choices and different endings. Until Dawn takes not going back and redoing decisions you didn’t like pretty seriously, as the game is designed in a way that it is impossible to load a previous save in order to change your choices.
August 30 – Disney Infinity 3.0 (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360, Wii U, PC)
Parents and fans of Marvel, Star Wars and Disney figurines shudder as on Aug. 30, Disney Infinity 3.0 descends onto all major consoles. Empty out your retirement fund and collect them all!
August 31 – The Elder Scrolls Online: Imperial City DLC (PC)
Finally, on the last day of August, Elder Scrolls Online fans on PC will get their first major DLC pack, Imperial City. Free to all users, ESO fans can expect expanded Veteran Ranks, a new currency for new gear, alongside two new dungeons when Molag Bal invades Tamriel’s capital city.
