Ubisoft recently revealed that Bayek’s wife will be playable in Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Speaking to GameInformer, game director Ashraf Ismail said Aya is one of the many playable characters throughout Assassin’s Creed Origins. Ismail stressed that Bayek is the main protagonist and other characters are only playable in certain missions.
“It is primarily Bayek’s story and journey, and this is the decision we had made because it was what we came to in terms of when we were building this experience, the narrative, the gameplay, this is the experience we wanted to create,” said Ismail. “So, it was a choice that we made [not to split the campaign].” In a way, Ismail stressed that Assassin’s Creed Origins won’t play similarly to 2015’s Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, which used two playable characters to equally tell the game’s story.
So far, we only know that Aya plays a role in introducing Bayek to Cleopatra. Ismail said the team doesn’t want to reveal the identity of other playable characters. He also failed to specify if they will play differently from Bayek.
Limiting other characters to certain quests makes sense considering the game’s loot-heavy RPG elements. Making all characters as skilled as Bayek might also lessen the character’s appeal.
Assassin’s Creed Origins launches on October 27, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
