Overwatch Year of the Rooster Skins

Recommended Videos

One of the best aspects of each Blizzard Overwatch event are the various skins that players can acquire via opening loot boxes that they have either earned or purchased in-game. With the Year of the Rooster event in full swing, Blizzard has brought 13 new skins for players to pick and choose from. Of these 13 new skins, 7 of them are legendary with almost every tank getting a different overlay which is a first for a holiday event. There are also some rare skins that simply use the red, gold, and black color pallet with small designs on either their armor or weapons.

You can also purchase these Overwatch Year of the Rooster skins for either 750 gold or 3,000 gold depending on what their rarity consists of. What’s interesting is that 4 of the core alternate outfits promoted in this Overwatch event are based off characters in the novel Journey to the West which was first published in 1592. Here are all thirteen Year of the Rooster skins that are brand new to Overwatch.

Mei – Luna

After the uproar the community had over Mei’s underwhelming legendary skin during the Winter Event, it appears Blizzard has redeemed themselves with this adorable outfit for everyone’s favorite ice throwing defender.

Mei – Chang’e

This is the second new legendary skin for Mei and it’s simply a color pallet swap of her Luna skin. Though this one is quite adorable if you aren’t a fan of the color pallet featured in Year of the Rooster.

Ana – Tal

This masked outfit for the sniper healer Ana is far more colorful than any of the other skins and features some pretty cool detail on her gun and biotic grenades.

D.Va – Palanquin

The second of the first two skins spoiled, this legendary skin not only dressed the famed gamer in traditional Korean garb but outfits her mech with beautiful designs and artwork across the hull.

Junkrat – Firework

This rare Overwatch skin fits our favorite Austrailian mad bomber with some fireworks along his chest and changes his base color pallet to a deep red and gold.

Symmetra – Qipao

Another one of the rare skins, Symmetra’s overall design really didn’t alter much outside of some base color changes that are more in line with Overwatch’s Year of the Rooster event.

Mercy – Golden

Mercy’s new rare Year of the Rooster skin is fairly simplistic in design as, much like Symmetra, is really just a simple switch of colors for her pallet with a light amount of ornate designs on her gear. Sadly her wings remain the same color, so don’t expect anything too flashy with this healer.

Tracer – Rose

Continuing the tradition of every holiday event giving Tracer a new skin, this outfit is far simpler than her other ones. Dawned in what appears to be black leather, this skin implies a minimalist design by only having a few embroidered flowers act as small pops of color on her uniform.

Bastion – Rooster

Perhaps the best looking rare skin of the bunch, Bastion’s is very reminiscent of the BlizzCon overlay offered to players late last year. Not only does this skin turn Bastion’s friend Ganymede into a rooster, but his hull is colored deep red with gorgeous artwork flowing across the various pieces.

Winston – Wukong

The first of four Journey to the West inspired legendary skins, this overlay turns Winston into Sun Wukong who’s better known as the Monkey King.

Zenyatta -Sanzang

Everyone’s favorite lover of peace and harmony, Zenyatta’s new legendary skin is of Tang Sanzang who is a fictional character based upon the Buddhist Monk Xuanzang

Reinhardt – Wujing

It’s been some time since we saw a legendary skin available for Reinhardt, so it’s nice to see such a detailed overlay make its way into Overwatch. This outfit is based off the river monster known as Sha Henshang who was an apprentice of  Tang Sanzang.

Roadhog – Baije

Perhaps the coolest skin released with this event, Roadhog is the final character from the Journey to the West skin set. This overlay transforms this tank into Zhu Bajie who is not only another apprentice of Tang Sanzang but is actually a pig monster.
