Evolve has changed multiplayer games forever with its revolutionary asymmetrical gameplay pitting four hunters and one monster in a tense game of cat and mouse. No doubt, hunters and monsters everywhere have grown to learn the ins and outs of the Goliath, Kraken, and Wraith. But what lies ahead for monsters and hunters alike? What new creatures will Turtle Rock Studios throw into the jungles of Evolve? The developers have teased at the first DLC monster: a giant armadillo composed of stone and boulders known as The Behemoth. But what else does Turtle Rock have up their sleeves? Take a look at some possible additions to the game.
Brood Mother
A Brood Mother is a creature composed of other creatures. While not the official name of the fifth monster, it does seem likely that this will be it given the nature of the banter between Maggie and Hank. Maggie reveals the fourth monster which Turtle Rock has already confirmed as a monster made of rock (the armadillo), but what of this fifth monster? A monster made of more monsters that has Hank freaked out.
Anything about this rumored fifth DLC monster is just speculation at this point. But it’s certainly fun to pontificate on the abilities of this Brood Mother. This amorphous blob of a creature, rather than feed, simply absorbs any monsters in its path adding to the cushion separating the creature from the hunters. But, as hunters do damage to the Brood Mother, rather than lose armor, the creatures fall off of her – dead.
Special abilities of the Brood Mother include the ability to throw live creatures at the hunters, shed all of it’s fauna at once – forcing hunters to deal with an avalanche of hostile creatures and increasing the Brood Mother’s speed, an absorb ability that allows the Brood Mother to hold a hunter captive for a short period of time, and of course, the ability to draw in all the monsters within range of the Brood Mother.
This addition to the game, both creepy and exciting, would cause hunters to re-evaluate their tactics.
The Recluse
This new monster, the Recluse, is an arachnid that navigates alien planets with it’s eight legs and lies in wait to capture unsuspecting hunters in it’s poisonous webs. This monster, completely made up and not hinted at by Turtle Rock in anyway, would be an excellent addition to the game, because it would serve as an alternate stealth choice for players looking for something more strategic than the Wraith.
The recluse would be fast on land and have the unique ability of holding a climb. When other monsters climb, they simply mount an obstacle, but when the Recluse does it, it has the ability to stay lodged against the side of a tree or cliff. It’s special ability would be the option of laying an egg and having a baby spider minion, creating an invisible and poisonous web trap that lies in wait for unsuspecting hunters to pass through, a web shot that grabs and pulls at a target with a poisonous web, and the stun bite that incapacitates one hunter caught in the Recluse’s embrace.
Is the Recluse a possible addition to the game? Probably not. But a spider-type enemy seems like an obvious candidate for the game. It fits well with the hunter and hunted mechanics and would force players to carefully navigate the maps.
The Snap-Dragon
The Snap-Dragon would be the walking tank of monsters. This tortoise-like monster in unable to be tracked due to it’s radar-jamming shell and has the ability to settle in the ground and mimic boulders. To maneuver the map, the giant land tortoise uses it’s stretching claws to easily climb up any obstacle in it’s path. To compensate for it’s durability, the Snap-Dragon would be the slowest of all the monsters in the game, making it hard to escape once it’s been found.
Abilities for the Snap-Dragon would include: a withdraw where the Snap-Dragon tucks all of it’s squishy bits inside the shell, a spike barrage that shoot from the back of the turtle and attack hunters like the orbital strike, flame breath, and a spin attack. All these moves would work in conjunction with the withdraw ability, allowing the Snap-Dragon to retain its defensive properties.
