Vincent Valentine
Does it get much more mysterious and badass than Vincent Valentine of Final Fantasy VII? He’s got the attitude and the good looks to be the next Doctor. While he rides along the reserved and quiet hero side, Vincent could certainly stand the test of time.
Master Chief
Accustomed to traveling to all sorts of planets, Master Chief would fit in well to play the Doctor. He might be silent, but that is a indicator of his strength. He blends in well with the world around him, and could be a fantastic weapon against the dangers and threats that face the threads of time.
Sly Cooper
Sly Cooper is a classic Robin Hood, and his heritage of master thieves is critical to consider for his audition for next season’s Doctor. But thief is a strong word, since he only targets criminals. Sly’s vocation is to set balance in the world, and with the tradition of his long-running family, he can adapt to the times before him.
Fox McCloud
Okay, let’s get past him being a fox. But our furry, space-traveling hero carries some core damage that many humans can relate to. Fox’s father issues are what make him passionate. His galactic endeavors are driven by that deep void, and are the source of his firmly rooted compassion.
JC Denton (Deus Ex)
The nano-augmented hero is intelligent and idealistic. He strongly believes he is helping the world, and has the tools to make the task of being a Doctor easier. He can become invisible, change his immunity, or use night vision if he needed to.
Professor Layton
Professor Layton is one of those heroes that probably has less than six degrees of separation from all the previous Doctors. The English gentleman already fits the bill solving crime, and had a taste of time travel in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.
Sora
His epic search for Kairi, along with the gift of the Keyblade, has transformed Sora from a naive little kid on the island to a young man who has seen all kinds of evil in all sorts of worlds. The multiversal battle against the Heartless and Nobodies has given Sora a chance to crossover into different Disney worlds, so he’s had plenty of practice for being the next Doctor.
Simon Belmont
Anyone who has spent centuries fighting Dracula and millions of other demons and vampires and monsters deserves a nod to audition as the next Doctor. Simon Belmont’s classic good versus evil battle has spanned eons, much like the Doctor. He might be a departure of the beta-male gentleness common in the Doctors passed, but his brute desire to right the world would be refreshing and pretty badass.
Ness
When a meteor falls a few minutes from your backyard and weird monsters start invading your town, you have to step up and be the hero. Ness grabbed his baseball bat, collected a few friends, and discovered his PSI powers. He fought one of the greatest evils in Giygas and beat him with love, faith, and prayer. He’s a great fit to be the next Doctor, although he might need to age a few more years.

Imagine an entire season of Doctor Who with a silent hero. What would his counterparts do? They’d have to learn how to read his nonverbal communication, figure out how to play songs on an Ocarina, and carry around a lot of bottles with potions and fairies. And somehow the writers would work Ganondorf into the plot, because Link doesn’t really have any other enemies in life.
Crono
From the Dark Ages to a post-modern dystopia, Crono has triggered all kinds of events through time, and he did so with grace. He’d make a great Doctor, and Lucca would be the perfect co-star. Resolving the conflicts of the plotlines might come too easy for them, actually.
Solid Snake
Snake? Snake? Yes, Snake! There’s nothing fantastical about the man, but the number of battle wounds he gets to wear as badges far outnumbers any other Doctor candidate. The only time it got weird for him was when he had to switch to the Player 2 slot on his original PlayStation.
Dr. Mario
He’s already a Doctor. He destroys viruses with colored pills when he’s not out saving Princess Peach from a terrorizing turtle. Mario could use a little break from his current universe, because he’s been fighting Bowser for 30 years now. It would be a great chance to cleanse that awful taste of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, too.
Max Caulfield
She might be young, but Max is already learning to manipulate time. She also deals with the emotional landscapes of her friends and the other students at Blackwell Academy. She fights for the better good. And she’s trying to keep the world from ending. Sounds like a great Doctor resume.
Lara Croft
Not only is Lara Croft a great idea to entertain as a crossover, Camilla Luddington is in her prime. The English-bred actress has played strong recurring roles in Californication, True Blood, Grey’s Anatomy, and has done a fantastic job voicing Lara in Square Enix’s Tomb Raider series. Come on, BBC, let’s be progressive. It’s time to have a woman play the next Doctor.
