Earlier this month, MiHoYo revealed Genshin Impact’s version 2.1, titled “Floating World Under the Moonlight,” which is set to feature a ton of updated content, including new characters, locations, and gameplay. Not too long after the update was revealed, a new login event was also confirmed.
While this may sound like an exciting update on the surface, the way it and the upcoming daily login event have been scheduled is considerably troubling. Titled Passage of Clouds and Stars, this daily login event is set to reward players who log in on seven days in total to receive 10 Intertwined Fates and other rewards for their hard work.
For anyone who has never played Genshin Impact, Intertwined Fates serve as a currency that is used for wishes. If you have 10 Intertwined Fate then you get 10 Wishes. In turn, Wishes are used for a chance to unlock new characters through RNG, similarly to how loot boxes work, which is all based on the Character Banner you wish on. If you want, you can use all of them just to try unlocking the characters you really want.
So, in theory, the Passage of Clouds and Stars should be a good thing for players, as it’ll give them 10 different opportunities to unlock the new characters featured in Genshin Impact version 2.1. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Since Passage of Clouds and Stars starts Sept. 28, players that want to take advantage of the event to wish on Banners for Genshin Impact version 2.1’s new characters actually won’t be able to. The Banner for Raiden Shogun (AKA Baal), Kujou Sara, and two other unannounced characters will be over before the daily login event allows them to take advantage of the 10 Intertwined Fate rewards.
As such, anyone who wants to get popular ones like Baal and Sara probably won’t be able to do so without paying, as the 10 free wishes that are being given out in the Passage of Clouds and Stars events are basically meaningless if you’re going for those new Electro characters.
It is a questionable move by MiHoYo that is sure to frustrate dedicated fans of the gacha game, as it currently just looks like they want people to spend money on wishing for Baal and Sara before giving out free wishes later on once they’re unavailable. This isn’t a new issue either, as players have been begging for more opportunities to get more rewards in the game.
Unlike most gacha games, Genshin Impact doesn’t have normal daily logins. Sure, you can go to HoyoLab and collect some login rewards but players shouldn’t have to log in to an external website just to claim daily rewards. Instead, there should be dailies for simply opening up the game.
Overall, MiHoYo seems to have an issue when it comes to rewarding its players, instead choosing to make the most desirable content extremely difficult to earn. It’s disappointing and defeats the purpose and reward of grinding out daily activities as a means to get what you want.
