The Nintendo Treehouse E3 2019 stream showed off a good chunk of gameplay for Playtonic’s new game, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. They also revealed an interesting tidbit of information that will likely catch the attention of speedrunners.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair can be finished by beating just one level. If you travel to the final level — aptly named the Impossible Lair — on the overworld map it’ll allow you in right away. However, those with minimal 2D platforming skills should beware. Playtonic looks to make this one of the hardest platforming challenges out there.

In Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the evil Capital B has created this “impossible” level to destroy anyone who enters. In his cockiness, Capital B leaves the door wide open for anyone to jump in.

The Impossible Lair takes everything you would have learned over the course of the game and throws it back in your face. It’s technically not impossible, but you’ll have an incredibly rough time making it through right away.

This single level is over four times longer than any other level in the game and contains no checkpoints. If this doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, then you can recruit the 48 bees of the Beetallion to assist you through the Impossible Lair

Each level has one captive bee waiting at the end. Complete the level and free the bee to bring it along with you on your trek to the Impossible Lair. Once you enter that deathly level, the Beetallion will protect you from an early demise. Each hit you take and pitfall you suffer in the Impossible Lair will remove one bee from your team.

It will certainly be much easier when you don’t have to worry about taking damage from up to 48 hits. Otherwise, you can just keep slamming your head into the brick wall of the Impossible Lair until you beat it.

You can try your hand at this ultra-challenging level when Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair releases for Xbox One, PC, PS4, and Switch later this year.
