Cancelled GoldenEye 007 Remastered Footage Surfaces

Looking golden indeed.

Thanks to YouTube channel Rare Thief, new footage has surfaced from the cancelled GoldenEye 007 remaster, initially intended to release on Xbox 360 through the Xbox Live Arcade service until copyright issues with Nintendo intervened with the project’s development.

Besides playing at a solid 60 frames per second and boasting upgraded visuals, the user could effortlessly switch between the revamped graphics and those of the 1997 original according to Rare Thief, reminiscent of the way players could toggle between the visual engines of the Halo: Combat Evolved remaster.

Also planned to be included were three new multiplayer levels, namely Frigate, Depot and Dam, as well as featuring all new options in GoldenEye’s menus.

Unfortunately we will never witness this GoldenEye remake in its full glory. Maybe with this leak, interest in the project will resurface? We can only dream, but at least the 2011 remaster and the Wii version will scratch that itch.
