Wolfenstein II’s Switch Port Is Being Developed by the Same Studio That Ported Doom

They also developed the Rocket League port for Switch.

The Switch port of Machine Games and Bethesda Softworks’ Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus appears to be in good hands. Panic Button, the same studio responsible for porting 2016’s Doom to Nintendo’s hybrid home/mobile console last month, is developing the Switch version of Wolfenstein II.

“It’s the same as the Doom studio,” MachineGames Narrative Designer Tommy Tordsson Bjork told GameReactor at Spain’s Fun & Serious Game Festival.

“It’s the same people,” added MachineGames Senior Game Designer Andreas Öjerfors before noting that Panic Buttons’ devs are “experts at the Switch, and now they’re experts with the [id Tech 6] engine, so we work with them, and the Doom version turned out to be really kick-ass on the Switch, so I think Wolfenstein will be the same.”

Bjork agreed: “It’s going to be as good.”

Panic Button’s Switch port of Doom sits at a 79 Metacritic score, but virtually all major publications that reviewed the port awarded it an 80 or higher. The game averaged 84-87 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but at least some dip in review scores was to be expected for the port due to the Switch’s significantly lower technical capabilities.

The studio also ported popular indie hit Rocket League to Switch, and it actually received a warmer critical reception than it did on PlayStation 4 and the same Metacritic average as its PC version. Rocket League did score higher with critics on Xbox One, but only by a single point.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will arrive on Nintendo Switch in 2018.
