Pokemon Go won’t be appearing at this year’s GDC as initially planned, and according to a statement from developer Niantic, this is so the team can focus on the product’s launch.

“We have decided to forego our GDC talk on Pokemon Go in order to focus on getting the product ready for beta test and launch,” CEO John Hanke told Game Informer. “As much as we hate to disappoint those in the industry attending GDC, we feel our time and energy right now are best spent on making sure every aspect of the product is where we want it to be.”

The now-cancelled GDC presentation, titled “Catch ‘Em All: ‘Pokemon GO’ and Real World Gaming”, planned to give “a first-hand, in-depth look” at Pokemon GO’s real world interaction. The mobile game is slated to release this year, boasting an augmented reality Pokemon-catching experience. So far, this seems to involve collecting Pokemon by traveling to various real-world locations. There’s also a wearable watch-like device that can be used alongside the game. And that’s pretty much all we know.

The thirst continues.
