The first part of the year has been rife with announcements for more DC movies on the horizon such a Nightwing movie, and March continues that trend. Variety has reported that Batgirl will be getting her own solo film, and they’ve got Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon handling the writing, directing, and producing.
Batgirl in the comics is Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon, a prominent member of the Batfamily. As a young adult, she grew inspired by the Dark Knight’s heroic actions and took up a mantle for herself. Over the decades since her arrival, she’s been paralyzed and resumed her heroics under the identity of Oracle. Currently in the comics, she’s able to walk again and headlines two comics–her own titular one, and the team comic with the Birds of Prey, which currently consists of her, Black Canary, and Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress.
No other producers or stars have been attached to the Batgirl film, or even a release date. But once we find out who’ll be playing Barbara Gordon and there’s a firm time frame for the film, we’ll let you know.
