Uncharted 4: A thief’s End was one of the biggest and best games of 2016. It was a fitting end to Nathan Drake’s adventures and was critically acclaimed upon release. Naughty Dog still has one last trick up its sleeve with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Announced late last year, The Lost Legacy will be a stand alone single player DLC that is set 12 months after the events of the fourth game. The game will focus on the character Chloe Frazer as she forms an uneasy partnership with the antagonist from A Thief’s End, Nadine Ross.
Chloe and Nadine are on the hunt for the Tusk of Ganesha and the game will take place in India. If you’re pumped for this expansion, then you’ll want to check out a new post on the Official PlayStation Blog which allows readers to take a closer look at the upcoming adventure.
The post reveals that Naughty Dog wanted to return to the character of Chloe Frazer not only because she didn’t appear in Uncharted 4 but also because of her parallels to Drake. Writer Josh Scherr stated: “They’re both treasure hunters. Drake has a bit of a hero complex, but Chloe looks out for number one, first and foremost.”
The developers over at Naughty Dog feel Chloe and Nadine are an excellent partnership because they contrast one another. “They’re opposites. Chloe is spontaneous and impulsive, where Nadine is by the book, structured,” said creative director Escayg. “That made for a good pairing.”
“Both of them are in positions they aren’t used to being in,” Game Director Kurt Margenau said. “Chloe, in terms of taking charge. Nadine, who is used to running the show, is now the hired gun. They’re both figuring it out as they go.”
A Thief’s End was noted for its vast open areas players could explore more freely than past games, but this has been built upon even further for The Lost Legacy. The game will feature the largest area ever seen in the Uncharted series with lots of secrets and treasure to discover.
Veterans of the series will also be pleased to find they’re new equipment to take advantage of. The expansion will allow players to employ tactics more often and there’s even a silenced pistol for you to take out enemies stealthily. Players will have more choice when dealing with enemies than ever. “There are entire combat setups that you can skip, go around, or approach from any direction,” Margenau explained. “It’s got a bigger, more organic feel, with more player choice and more stealth options.” The game will also introduce a lockpicking mechanic.
Those of you hoping to see Drake show up shouldn’t hold your breaths. As Scherr explained:
“We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character,” Scherr explained. “But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.” Margenau was even more direct. “We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all.” So, uh, maybe don’t hold your breath.
“You can sort of imagine Drake sitting on the couch playing Crash Bandicoot while Chloe and Nadine are off galavanting,” joked Scherr. “Yeah, the Crash Bandicoot remaster,” Margenau added.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 later this year.
