Ubisoft today revealed an extensive look at Beyond Good and Evil 2 during a stream event. The alpha footage showcases an expansive open-world environment, as well as giving us a good look at the moment-to-moment co-operative gameplay, various augments, and combat.
Beyond Good and Evil 2’s last public appearance was on Ubisoft’s E3 2018 stage via a cinematic trailer, with actual gameplay footage reserved for behind-closed-doors presentations. Today’s stream featured a developer walkthrough of that very same presentation, in a addition to a shorter sequence showing off a developer update on its most recent progress.
What we see is a game of impressive scope and ambition, realizing detailed sandbox environments within a larger open-solar-system (yep, I’m making that a thing). There’s conventional third-person combat, traversal across the stunning futuristic Ganesha city, and vehicular space combat.
At this stage, what’s less clear is the emphasis on story and characters, which will be of particular interest to fans of the original game given what a huge and beloved part of the experience it was.

Developer Update
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an online experience that can be played solo or co-operatively with friends. It serves as a prequel to the first game, in which players are tasked with “rising from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of colorful characters to fight for freedom and the right to determine our own fate among the stars!”
