Ubisoft released a statement today saying it would remove some of the full-frontal nudity from Watch Dogs 2 in a patch later this week, after a PlayStation 4 player shared a screenshot of a NPC’s fully-rendered vagina and was banned from the PlayStation Network for doing so. The company also promised to work with Microsoft and Sony to make sure the game’s content is suitable for players to share.
“We’re aware that one of the NPC models in Watch Dogs 2 is rendered in a way that is particularly explicit,” Ubisoft said in a statement to Polygon. “While Watch Dogs 2 is a mature-rated game, we apologize and will update this NPC model to make it more consistent with other NPC models in the game in a patch to be released this week. We also are working with our first-party partners to ensure that players can continue to play and share all content from the game within the bounds of the first parties’ respective codes of conduct.”
This situation started when a UK player got the game early and used the PlayStation 4’s built-in Share feature to tweet a screenshot of the full-frontal nudity (Warning: NSFW). The user posted to NeoGAF that Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe suspended his account for one week for violating the Code of Conduct, which does not allow “content of an adult or sexual nature.” The ban was made this Monday, but Sony increased the suspension to one month today.
Full-frontal nudity is mentioned in the ESRB rating for the game, but does not include detailed genitalia textures. Watch Dogs 2 is out today for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and Nov. 29 for PC.
