Game streaming website Twitch.tv is going to get more social in an upcoming update. Soon, members of the site will be able to create friends lists for instant chatting.
Twitch announced a host of new features during their PAX East panel including the new Friends List. This feature will allow users to add up to 500 friends who are also on the site. It will show their online status and give the option to private chat instantly.
Currently, Twitch users can use private messaging to communicate on the website. The function doesn’t save a list of names or allow live chat, so the Friends List was created to improve on it.
Ad-free subscriptions are also coming to the site. Partnered streamers will be able to turn off advertisements for anyone who pays to subscribe to the channel.
This option was previously limited to Twitch Turbo, a $9 subscription to the website itself.
A limited beta test for the Friends feature begins on April 23, and anyone attending PAX East can sign up at the Twitch booth.
