Today Nintendo opened the procedure to cancel pre-orders Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore on its digital storefronts in Japan.
The situation was sparked by the lack of prior communication on the fact that the Switch re-release of the Wii U JRPG was based on the heavily-censored western version even in Japan, which prompted Nintendo to issue an apology a few days ago.
Today they followed through, revealing the cancellation procedure for those who don’t want the game anymore.
The page with a reiteration of the apology and the promise that the house of Mario and Zelda will try its best not to let ths happen again.
The offer is valid for anyone who pre-ordered or pre-purchased Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore on the Japanese Nintendo eShop or on My Nintendo Store until today at 14:00 Japan time. This means that if you did so after the initial apology was issued, you’re still in time, but you have to act before November 15.
It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t valid if you pre-ordered or pre-purchased the game anywhere else, as you’re encouraged to contact your retailer directly.
Customers are required to enter their data and their order number, with a procedure that appears relatively painless. Refunds will be issued after the end of the period mentioned above.
Incidentally, it’s relevant to mention that Nintendo did not in any shape or form apologize for censoring the game (as some outlets erroneously headlined while reporting about the apology), but simply for not communicating that the re-release in Japan is based on the western version in a timely way.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will release on the Nintendo Switch on Jan. 17.
