Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and the Modern Warfare remaster, are two of the most anticipated games of the year. The Call of Duty series is one of the biggest game franchises around and there seems to be no stopping it.
A Call of Duty game has been released every year since 2003 and many younger gamers can hardly remember a time when the series wasn’t the biggest first-person shooter around. Some gaming companies decide to give franchises a little rest after a long period of success, in order to prevent them from getting stale. Will Activision follow suit? It seems not.
In an interview with Marketplace, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick stated that Call of Duty games will continue to be made, even if the platforms they’re released on change.
“We’ve had Call of Duty games played on virtually every console for the last 14 years,” he said. “So the idea of having a game that centers around armed conflict through history…you never run out of ideas for Call of Duty games. There will always be Call of Duty games. And they’ll be played on a variety of devices.”
When asked how, as the biggest publisher in the world, Activision looks at its competitors, Kotick revealed that there is an element of insecurity when it comes to being at the top but he feels that prevents complacency.
“I look over my shoulder every day. There is a level of insecurity you have about being a leader in a business and without that insecurity, I think you get complacency.”
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered are set to be released on November 4 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
